Mindful Movement

Weekly, Wednesdays beginning September 13, 2017

5:30-6:30 p.m.

In our hyper-intellectualized culture, taking time to connect with body and breath can be such a balm to the busyness of life. On Wednesday evenings, we offer a rotating series of movement classes, from gentle and restorative to powerful and active. Each series is offered over four consecutive weeks, and all are infused with mindful awareness of movement as a practice of self-care and self-compassion.

Come just for the movement practice or give yourself a rich and full evening of mindfulness by joining us for Candlelight Meditation from 7–8:30 p.m.

  • Location: Public Chapel

  • Drop-in: $15 (Pay at the door by cash or check)

  • Multi-Week Passes: 4 weeks: $50; 8 weeks: $100; 12 weeks, $125

Meditation in Motion: Slow Yoga

Instructor: Miranda Chapman

4-week series: September 13–October 4, 2017

This hour-long practice will engage the breath, gentle yogic movement, and deep awareness with wisdom that allows for mind, body, heart connection while in dynamic spaces. This practice is meant to open the body with grace and ease to allow for a sense of deeper connection with yourself in the present moment.

Mindful Yoga

Instructor: Mike Riley

4-week series: October 11–November 1, 2018

Explore yoga postures and movements with meditative awareness or mindfulness, intentionally paying attention to the experience of each moment. This practice cultivates full body and breath awareness, and a relaxed state of mind.

Meditative Movement

Instructor: Sandrine Harris

4-week series: November 8–29, 2017

Awakening the body is a beautiful inroad to the focused attention of sitting meditation. Meditative movement is an invitation to tune into the body, move with ease, and work with the breath, cultivating a sense of wholeness and presence while feeling the support of community. This practice is accessible to all: gentle, breath-based, embodied.

Gentle Yoga

Instructor: Karen Sevenoff

4-weeks series: December 6–27, 2017

This practice combines the ease of a very gentle yoga practice and very slow fluid movement characteristic of somatic movement therapy. We’ll practice to maintain a consistent and kind awareness of inner body experience which can help re-establish body-brain connections, restore muscular function, and ease stiffness and pain. Includes a 15-minute, guided Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep or rest).

T’ai Chi & Qigong

Instructor: Brendan Noonan

4-weeks series: January 3–24, 2018

Learn fundamental movements of t’ai chi and qigong with an emphasis on creating positive habits for good posture and correct movement. One focus of the practice is mind fitness and resiliency through moving meditation. Brendan’s goal is for you to walk away with some tools that can be applied to everyday life.

Deep Flow

Instructor: Jade Duprey-Robinson

4-weeks series: January 31–February 21, 2018

In this 60-minute practice, we will connect movements with breath, flow through seated positions, explore breath with held standing positions and dissolve tension with reclined restorative positions. Each session interweaves elements of power, gentle, yin, and restorative yoga to explore our capacity for self-healing, strength, balance, endurance, focus, and deep relaxation.
