IDEAL FOR: All levels
Courageous Candlelight Conversations provide a forum to explore the connection between contemplative practice and vital social issues. Engaged citizenship in which people take an active role in their communities relies upon honest dialogue and sincere listening about our common convictions and diverging viewpoints. Candlelight Conversations provide a space for true exchange where people deeply encounter one another in a spirit of authenticity and compassion. Each Candlelight Conversation will include meditation, mindful conversation, and teaching, concluding with tea and refreshments.
For our third Courageous Candlelight Conversation of 2019, we will hold space for shares and reflections on the topic of trauma-informed mindfulness. Facilitated by Miranda Chapman, this gathering will feature Copper Beech Institute Board Member and certified psychotherapist Vamsi Koneru. We will be exploring the question, what is the intersection of mindfulness and trauma? If trauma is a severe form of stress and mindfulness can help with significant levels of stress and anxiety, then the application of mindfulness in this context seems only natural if not optimal. Yet due to the prevalence and pernicious effects of trauma - such as feeling profoundly unsafe in one’s body – we will explore a critical question: how can we bring a trauma-informed lens to the practice of mindfulness to make it safer, more inviting, and ultimately healing for those who have experienced trauma.
All are welcome. No registration necessary. Free-will offering.
