Whether you are part of a volunteer community group, a non-profit organization, or a major multinational corporation, navigating the complexities of being a leader in today’s society can be challenging. It requires individuals who possess both the outer skills of leadership and the inner resources that fuel one’s capacity to lead. Leadership must be viewed as an aspiration, a choice, and an opportunity to serve others, regardless of whether one is in a “position” to lead.

This workshop will integrate the inner practice of mindfulness meditation with an introduction to one of the best-known evidence-based approaches to leadership development. The two work together: effective leadership is very much about self-awareness and self-development, and mindfulness meditation has been shown to help individuals develop self-awareness and other key attributes related to leadership (including the ability to focus attention in the context of competing demands; to be empathic and compassionate toward, and have good working relationships, with colleagues; to recognize and manage emotions; and to be resilient in the face of challenges and setbacks).

The workshop will also introduce The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®, one of the most extensively studied models of transformational leadership development. Findings from research on the five practices demonstrate that leaders who frequently use these practices make a profoundly positive difference in organizations and the people with whom they work.

Participants in this workshop will receive a self-assessment on the five practices and how to apply these to their real-life challenges and goals. Periods of mindful meditation will be integrated with interactive leadership exercises and discussions. This workshop is designed for both emerging and established leaders, and those who aspire to make a difference for people and organizations.
